Are you drinking within healthy limits?

Did you know that woman should drink no more than 14 units per week (2-3 units a day) and men no more than 21 units per week (3-4 units a day)

Do you know your units?

Typical 75cl bottle of wine
approx = 9 units
1 pint of strong beer =  3 units
1 pint or ordinary beer, lager or
cider =  2 units
1 measure of spirit = 1 unit

Regularly drinking over the recommended limits doesn’t make you an alcoholic. However, it can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, liver problems, reduced fertility and depression. Not to mention relationship difficulties.

The average person breaks down 1 unit of alcohol every hour but this process only begins when you have stopped
drinking. For example, if you were to have 5 pints of regular strength lager and stop drinking at 11pm, it will take approx ten hours for your liver to process the ten units and therefore it is likely that the alcohol won’t be out of your system until after 9am the following morning.

Talking to an Alcohol Counsellor can help clarify any concerns you may have and identify areas where you could make positive changes. People drink for many reasons such as socially, to reduce stress or sometimes just out of habit. Some people might decide to stop drinking altogether and if so depending upon the number of units they regularly consume, should be done with professional guidance. For some there is simply a wish to have a more informed approach and I am able to offer guidance and support to encourage such an outcome.
